OpenFOAM training workshop

Description

Description

OpenFOAM is a widely-used open-source code in computational fluid dynamics (CFD). OpenFOAM uses the finite volume method to solve governing equations of fluid motion through modules written in C++. This workshop will cover all foundational aspects of OpenFOAM, including an introduction to the OpenFOAM environment as well as running on HPC resources. It will be useful for new users to broaden their basic knowledge of OpenFOAM.

The training will run on the KTH PDC Dardel system. Visit this website for Dardel specs and the details.

This course will be provided in cooperation with EXCELLERAT. The focus of the EXCELLERAT group at KTH is developing the capabilities of Nek5000. However, it will inevitably take significant time before modern high-order solvers reach the same level of general applicability as current finite volume-based software. Therefore, in the broad spirit of assisting the adoption of HPC and CFD techniques by industrial users, we provide introductory training in OpenFOAM, which will also teach how to run CFD simulations on an HPC machine. We anticipate that for most participants this will be their first contact with HPC workflows, like working in the terminal, etc. Hopefully, this will pave the way for using the more specialized software that is the focus of EXCELLERAT.
